CHAMOMILE

CHAMOMILE

Matricaria recutita

Calming and restoring, chamomile is a flowering plant from the daisy family that promotes tranquility and health when used topically and orally. The dried chamomile flower exhibits anti-inflammatory and pain-suppressing qualities by enhancing the body’s immune system1. In a randomized clinical trial, mothers who had experienced a caesarean section felt a statistically significant lower pain intensity when treated with chamomile essential oil; their need of painkillers was also reduced post-surgery2. Not only could chamomile reduce the need for drugs, but it also could reduce the harmful side effects of some medications. Bleomycin, a medicine used to treat cancer, is known to cause pulmonary fibrosis, or scarring of the lungs. Rats treated with chamomile extract after bleomycin treatment showed less severe lung damage in a lab setting3. In other uses, chamomile oil applied topically on babies improved colic symptoms and oral treatment improved the quality of sleep of women experiencing menopause4,5. We consider chamomile a valuable component of our all-natural products at FPF.
